Akamas region - the Mediterranean's best-kept secret

The Akamas peninsula is southern Cyprus's last and least developed frontier. Some describe it as the Mediterranean's best-kept secret. A region of spectacular natural beauty, softly sanded coves housing turtle sanctuaries, gin-clear waters, picturesque fishing villages with excellent seafood restaurants and thickly wooded hillsides rising majestically above the rugged coastline. The discerning traveller is rewarded with panoramic ocean vistas, pristine beaches, substantial evidence of ancient civilisations, awe inspiring Byzantine churches and glimpses of roaming herds of mouflon, Cyprus's native heraldic wild sheep.

An unspoilt natural paradise

Famed for the unique clarity and strength of its sunlight, Cyprus's Akamas region has been drawing visitors and admirers for millennia. It even caught the attention of the Gods of Greek mythology, and the exquisite cove known as Aphrodite's Bath is a famous local beauty spot.

A sanctuary from Cyprus's overcrowded mainstream tourist hotspots

Today's visitor to the Akamas peninsula seeks sanctuary from Cyprus's overcrowded mainstream tourist hotspots. The island as a whole has enjoyed unprecedented overall expansion in mass tourism and development since the 1980s but the Akamas region remains surprisingly unspoilt. It offers the unique combination of a breathtakingly beautiful natural environment spiced with just the right amount of local life and colour. Visitors to this unspoilt natural paradise can be entertained as much or, indeed, as little as they wish - but always with genuine and gracious Cypriot hospitality.

Charming local villages

An unmistakeable traditional Greek Cypriot village community feel coexists comfortably with the unashamed luxury and majestic classical architecture of the world famous 5-star Anassa hotel nearby. The rural charms of the local villages with their excellent seafood restaurants, shops and wineries contrast perfectly with the fine dining and sophisticated bars on offer at the hotel. Akamas Villas guests are invited to take full advantage of the Anassa hotel's food and beverage outlets and may also be able to pay regular hotel guest rates for use of the spa and recreational facilities, subject to seasonal availability.

Sandy Beach Villas (Number 14) is situated approximately 400 metres past the Anassa Hotel on the beautiful coastal road that leads to the Baths of Aphrodite tourist attraction.

Where to go in Cyprus?

"Avoid places like Paphos and Limassol (unless you like visiting Irish pubs and eating a full English brekkie abroad) and instead head to the Akamas region, which is all fishing villages, olive trees and peaceful views of the sea. Most won't be able to afford the Anassa, a luxury boutique hotel, but a great alternative is to hire a villa from Akamas Villas"
